The Wright Recreation Center was built by the Atlantic Richfield Company who in the mid 1970’s owned and operated Black Thunder Coal Mine operations. They built the original infrastructure for what is now the incorporated town of Wright. Along with streets, and other amenities they also built the Wright Recreation Center and gave it to Campbell County. The facility became a division of the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department and is a key component in offering recreation opportunities for citizens in Wright and southern Campbell County.
The facility is equipped with a four lane swimming pool, gymnasium, weight room, locker rooms, cardio area, fitness room, racquetball courts, and offices. The site also has picnic areas, shelters, and two playgrounds that meet the needs for all ages of children. Other than the gymnasium that was built in 1991, the original structure is almost 35 years old and will be replaced over the next 18 months. The Parks and Recreation Board, County Commissioners and Town of Wright officials are currently in the construction phase of a new building. The new Wright Recreation Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012. Updates will be posted on this page as construction continues. Another sign of what makes it so great to live in Campbell County!
