Message From The Director,

Thank you for taking the time to view the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department web page. We appreciate your patronage and look forward to serving you throughout the year. 2009 promises to be an exciting year for the Department. With the recent opening of Spirit Hall Ice Arena at The Wyoming Center (which the department operates) to the new Recreation Center under construction, there is great excitement from patrons about these two new venues.

Activities at the new Ice Arena are well underway for the Gillette Hockey Association and Gillette Figure Skating Club. Each club has many events planned throughout the season. From figure skating competitions to hockey tournaments, games and practices the ice arena is heavily used. Also, several birthday parties and open skate sessions are held weekly. Not only is the rink praised by the players and competitors, but spectators are extremely appreciative of the WARM spacious lobby, concessions and seating area. If you have any questions about the rink, open skate times or rentals, please call the Ice Arena at 687-1555.

The new Recreation Center is currently under construction, on schedule and will open during the early Spring of 2010. The Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department and Campbell County School District joined hands in creating a facility that serves a wide variety of needs under one roof. This unique facility will have the advantage of combining a full-service recreation center with a multi-use competitive sports and training facility. Shared use of the amenities will be the hall mark of this creative mixed approach. Also, the City of Gillette donated approximately 24 acres of land for the project and has played a key role in the success of the endeavor.

This Recreation Center will also be a spectator venue for organized team sports. Different users groups will require separation without isolation. The facility will house a 200 meter track, five tennis courts, three basketball courts, lap pool, leisure pool, two waterslides, four racquetball courts, squash court, 42 ft. climbing tower, elevated walking track, babysitting area, concessions, weight room, cardio area, three exercise rooms, training and locker rooms. This state of the art multi use facility will host several team competitions, a variety of leisure activities and special events. The climbing tower will resemble aspects of Devil’s Tower Monument and will serve as the focal point of the spacious lobby to honor this national icon. Additional rock themes will be developed throughout the aquatic area of the facility. We will have more information on the new Recreation Center as construction develops.

If you have any questions, ideas for new programs or comments about current activities or our facilities, please call or e-mail me at: dave@ccgov.net
